Rodney Pople
I would like to draw your attention to the work of Rodney Pople; winner of the 2008 Sulman Prize at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and a finalist in the Wynn Prize . Rodney’s Painting ‘Botany Bay’ (pictured above) was recently hung in the Fleurieu Art Prize.

In a current Article in ‘Art World’ (December 2008/ January 2009), Tony Bond (Director Of Curatorial Services at the Art Gallery of NSW) writes;
“Rodney Stands apart from the fast- food aesthetic of fashion and there is every chance that his unusual, often incomprehensible, illuminations will survive the vagaries of History.”
Dinah Dysart, Arts writer and Editor in the same publication, reviews Pople’s recent Sydney exhibition in which ‘Botany Bay’ is mentioned. Dinah writes;
“Rodney Pople … revealed a mature confidence and a readiness to allow the imagery to speak for itself” by “using photographs as the conceptual basis for his paintings, this critically acclaimed artist gives an unusual and sometimes sinister twist to familiar scenes.”
This decisive work will make a significant addition toward building a fine Contemporary Australian Collection. Please contact me if you require further information on this artist.
